As one of the winningest postwar racing cars ever produced, on
either side of the Atlantic, Shelby's mighty AC Ace-derived 289 and
427 Cobras are also quite likely the most replicated today.
However, few of those modern recreations can lay claim to having
been produced by the original "Snake Charmer," Carroll Shelby. The
product of Shelby's drive to produce a line of official
continuation Cobras during the 1990s and 2000s, this CSX4000-series
car utilizes an improved original-type chassis design with a hand
laid fiberglass body. Shelby's new CSX4000 Cobras were sold on a
Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) issued by Shelby, and they
are duly and rightly listed in the definitive "Cobra Registry"
published by the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC).
Offered with just 5,674 miles since completion, this downright wild
CSX4000 Series Continuation 427 S/C Cobra was built on February 27,
2006. Bearing Chassis No. CSX4779, it is powered by a hand-built
451/455 HP all aluminum big block FE V-8. Power output and
performance potential are simply awesome. The driveline is equally
stout, featuring a Tremec TKO 600 5-speed manual transmission,
aluminum flywheel, Lakewood blow-proof bellhousing and performance
clutch.
A standout in its Le Mans blue exterior finish with bold white Le
Mans racing stripes, the Cobra is deceptively luxurious with its
black leather interior. A driver's side roll bar, side-exit exhaust
pipes and period-style wheels round out the Cobra's S/C
Semi-Competition cues. CSX4779 is of course accompanied by the
original MSO signed by Carroll Shelby.
