For Sale: 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in Suwanee , Georgia

Vehicle Description

Details

This 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is painted a deep shade of burgundy over beige-colored upholstery. Previous refurbishment by a prior owner is evident in the presentation of the engine and finish of the exterior. This coupe represents classic VW motoring with an example that is a ready driver, or ready for the next level of restoration.

Its 1.5 liter flat-four engine, paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle, creates a dynamic driving experience that is immersive and interactive. Furthermore, the presence of standard front disc brakes represents advanced technology for a vehicle of its age. Equipped with steel wheels with 'dog dish' hub caps for retro styling this example has the classic Karmann Ghia look and features. Also fitted are an integrated heater, pop-out side windows for ventilation, and an analog dashboard clock.

The car remains mostly stock with the exception of an aftermarket stereo unit. In 2020, the current owner acquired the car from its previous owner, a Nevada resident, who purchased it from California in 2013. The current owner notes that restoration work took place prior to his ownership.

Included in the sale are two keys, a radio, and an owners manual as well as a car cover.

This VW is available in Suwanee, Georgia, as a Premium Listing on CLASSIC.COM being sold by Parker Frazier.

About the model

The Type 14 was the most well known and prevalent variant of the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Mechanically based on the Type 1 Beetle, the Karmann was styled by Italian design house Ghia, and featured bodywork sculpted by German coachbuilder Karmann. A convertible version of the Type 14 was introduced in 1957, and in 1961 the entire lineup received a facelift, with wider front grills and updated and repositioned tailights being notable changes. As the Type 14 was based on the Beetle, the Karmann Ghia's engine was updated concurrently with the Beetle's, eventually ending with a 1.6L flat four engine at the end of the model's life.
