Vehicle Description
The original Studebaker Avanti was a very Innovative and unique car
in looks and function. The thought behind it was to be a luxury
performance 4 passenger coupe. They were only built for 2 years.
The Avanti II was made in limited production during various years.
It kept very true the the original with some upgrades. These are
hand built at a factory, not a kit car.
EXTERIOR: Very unique design with no grill, has rectangular
headlights and a fiberglass body. The body appears to be in
excellent shape. It is straight, everything fits real nice. I don't
see any damage or signs of repair. The doors shut real nice. The
paint finish is smooth and glossy. I did not see any significant
flaws. Weatherstrips, glass, jambs are all nice. Bumpers are in
great shape. They went to rubber bumpers soon after, I like the
chrome. New custom wheels add some bling.
INTERIOR: Very unique like a cockpit. Full of gauges and switches.
It has a built in roll bar too. Very comfortable bucket seats. All
the upholstery is very good, on the door panels too. In the glove
box there is a vanity tray that pulls out and a mirror flips open.
It has a tilt column with an Italian Momo wheel. The dash and
console are trimmed with burl wood. The gauges are complete set of
Stuart Warner, including a tachometer. The console is full of
switches and levers that control everything from the windows to the
heat. Up above it does he have a cloth headliner and a power
sunroof with a sunshade. And there's more switches to control the
lights. The original padded dash is not cracked or warped. Carpet
is in real good shape. I would say overall it is actually very good
inside.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: GM 5.0 liter V-8 motor with 4 Barrel Edelbrock
carb and HEI ignition system. New chrome valve covers and air
cleaner. Features include power steering, power brakes and air
conditioning. It is very tidy and proper. All the components,
brackets, engine bay are clean and painted nice. Under the hood
matches the body. The motor runs smooth.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Carpeted the same as the interior. The spare
tire lid is upholstered. The weatherstrip is in excellent shape.
Bottom of the trunk lid and the jamb is painted real nice. It does
have a power trunk release that works. It comes with a pile of
catalogs and service manuals.
UNDERSIDE: The bottom is suprisingly clean. Someone did clean and
neatly paint it. There is no caked on grease, the metal chassis is
smooth. They used original Studebaker frames. Floors are fiberglass
and look clean. Front end components look like they are in
excellent shape- ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends, shocks etc.
Bottom of the motor is really clean, has flywheel cover. That's a
turbo 350 automatic transmission and in back is a GM 12 bolt rear
end. Rear shocks look like they're recent, it has a sway bar. Great
sounding dual exhaust with glass pack style mufflers. It has disc
brakes in front.
Most people will have to ask you what it is. It is a car with an
interesting history and unique features. Avanti was Americas 7th
biggest car manufacturer at one time. It can be serviced by anyone
that can work on a Chevy. Comfortable and fun to drive!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure
your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do
a walk around video that explains the car's condition in
detail.
