Debuted by Alfa Romeo in prototype form at the 1956 Turin Salon,
the production Giulietta spider remained true to its sporting
nature, with a slightly shortened wheelbase and neat, elegant Pinin
Farina styling coupled with an 80 bhp, 1,290 cc four-cylinder
engine. Its basic appearance would continue for nearly a decade
before being replaced by the equally iconic Duetto spider.
Today the original Giulietta spider remains one of the most popular
and instantly recognizable Italian sports cars of its era, widely
enjoyed by enthusiasts all over the world as an affordable, lovable
Alfa ideal for tours and rallies. The car is also widely recognized
as one of Pinin Farina's most famous designs. No collection of
Italian sports cars is complete without one.
The example offered here is an original US-delivery example and was
acquired for the current collection in New England in 2009. It is
very well presented in what is believed to be the original color
scheme of Nero with a red interior, piped in black, and a black
cloth top. Paintwork and body fit overall is very good, with only
minor visible wear. The interior features a Veloce-style Nardi
two-spoke steering wheel facing the attractive red leather seats
over red-and-black carpeting. The trunk is properly finished, with
a rubber mat and beautiful paintwork that appears unmarked, while
the Fergat wheels are shod in blackwall tires. At the time of
cataloguing, the car recorded 50,506 miles.
This is a lovely Giulietta, beautifully presented and ready for its
next owner to drive and enjoy. To view this car and others currently
