This car is a true one owner time capsule with less than 20,800
miles accumulated since 1965! This survivor is well documented and
complete with all paperwork including protect-o-plate, order card,
owner's manual, and original title from 1965. Additionally, it has
full Pontiac Historical Society documentation and a reproduction
window sticker. The car has undergone an extensive preservation and
detailing to highlight its immaculate original condition and looks
totally amazing!
We have all heard the term "this car was only driven to church on
Sunday", and that pretty much describes the true story of this car.
The family has relayed the story of the original owner who
purchased the car from Travis Cadillac Pontiac in Peoria, Illinois.
Mr. William R. Wright purchased this vehicle on June 12, 1965.
William was a disabled veteran who lost the use of his legs and had
a strong devotion to the Catholic Saint Mother Frances Cabrini.
William wanted to visit the shrine in Denver Colorado, which was
founded by Mother Cabrini, and needed reliable transportation which
prompted him to purchase this station wagon. With A round trip of
over 2,000 miles these routine trips account for a majority of the
total mileage of this vehicle. Unable to drive the car himself, he
relied on his nephew to chauffeur him over the next several years
with multiple visits to the shrine. The station wagon provided
ample room for his luggage and wheelchair. This car was always
garage kept and after Williams passing his family kept it there
until it was recently sold.
EXTERIOR: This car was always garage kept and is in tremendous
condition as a result! Most of the paint is original but it has had
minor blending and touch-ups during its professional detail. The
catamaran inspired front facia is truly a work of art. The grill,
headlight bezels, bumpers, window trim, door handles, rocker
moldings, luggage rack all have a lustrous shine to them. The body
panel gaps are consistent throughout and the doors all close like a
new car. Fender skirts were installed at the dealership and the
original invoice is included. All the soft ray glass is original
and in fantastic condition. Original style white wall tires are
mounted on the factory rims with original 14" hubcaps. What an
exceptional original body!
INTERIOR: The interior is claimed to be 100% original from the
headliner down to the floor mats! All the details feel and look
correct on this car. I was told the only thing not original on the
interior is the clock which has a reproduction mechanism.
Everything looks fantastic and this interior is free of any major
blemishes. It has the slightest bit of patina that just reconfirms
the low original miles. All the interior lights are working. All
the chrome sparkles. And the lime green translucent steering wheel
is the icing on the cake. I absolutely love everything about this
interior!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Lift the hood of this wagon and you will
witness history! The original and correct 389-335 hp engine still
has a cache of original parts including the radiator, alternator,
heavy duty air cleaner, heavy duty clutch fan, carburetor, fan
belts, and heater hoses. Reproduction date coded spark plug wires
have been added. It has been freshened up with correct Pontiac blue
paint. The car also has power steering and power brakes from the
factory. Dual speed wipers were also an option and even the
squirters are hooked up. It has a reproduction battery topper. The
bottom side of the hood is complete with insulation. The fender
wells and firewall are the correct satin black color. The original
cowl tag is still in place.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: This "trunk compartment" has been very well
preserved just like the rest of the vehicle. To access the rear,
you must roll down the back window electronically and use the
inside handle to fold down the lift gate. It does have some very
minor scuffs and scratches, but you will absolutely not be
disappointed with its amazingly preserved condition. The rear seat
folds flat providing over 7 foot of cargo space. The carpet is all
original. There is a storage hatch at the rear with a lift up lid.
There are currently a few pieces of original trim stored in there.
The side panels are all boxed with their original vinyl covering
and in fantastic shape. The passenger side has a lift off cover
that houses the original full-size spare and jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: This car has been meticulously detailed and its
underbody looks immaculate! It is said that all of the front end
components including the tie rod ends and ball joints are original.
They appear to be in stellar condition and function tremendously.
The suspension is completely original down to the shocks and
springs and the assembly line stickers were replaced with
reproductions. This wagon has four wheel drum brakes that work well
and the emergency brake is hooked up. The stock style exhaust
system looks fresh and has a very mellow sound to it. The fuel tank
has its original undercoating and looks great. Looking up at the
389 motor it seems to be nice and original with correct parts.
There are no visible leaks. The Turbo 400 transmission has been
detailed as well and looks fantastic. The restorer left the
converter shield with original paint. There are no visible leaks
from the transmission. The 10 bolt rear end with factory highway
gear has been neatly spruced up with fresh black paint. The
original frame has been repainted and looks factory. The floors are
extremely solid and are said to have original undercoating on
them.
SERVICE: Our team of professional mechanics has completed a
thorough inspection of this vehicle and found it to be in excellent
mechanical condition. It passed through the shop with flying
colors.
1965 was a great year for the big Pontiacs, 1966 lost a lot of its
chrome inside and out. This rare wagon with less than 20,800
original miles has been lovingly cared for by its original owner
since new! A slew of documentation is included to the new owner.
Such a rare vehicle paired with an extensive professional detail
make for a very special combination that is now preserved for
future generations to admire and cherish!
